ENPE & PAS joint conference: Strengthening Prosecution of Environmental Crime - Co-operation, Expertise and Best Practices Across Europe; Belgrade 29-30 October 2026
The joint ENPE & PAS (Prosecutors Association of Serbia) conference, focussed on strengthening the prosecution of environmental crime, celebrated the 25th anniversary of PAS over two days in Belgrade, Serbia, from the 29-30 of October 2026. The event brought together prosecutors, legal experts, representatives of international organisations, civil society, and government officials from across Europe to exchange knowledge and best practices in the prosecution of environmental crime. ENPE members and member representatives provided thought-provoking interventions on key challenges and emerging developments in environmental law enforcement, fostering stronger cooperation between institutions at national and international level. The presentation topics included: ● Independence for prosecuting environmental crime ● European models for prosecuting environmental crime (evidence collection, digital evidence, link with organised crime), including innovative technologies and related projects ● Practical challenges in pollution cases (investigative cooperation, cross-border dimensions) ● Prosecution of pollution cases with examples included ● The role of civil society in creating an enabling environment for environmental justice. We are greatly indebted to our hosts, the PAS, the conference organisers and our presenters for making the event such a success. More conference outputs will be shared in due course.
